The Future Of Television
June 2010
We will all soon be able to watch any TV show we want and chose when
we want to watch. TV shows are increasingly being made available over the internet. New sites spring up each month
to deliver old favorites and current run TV shows.
You don't need a Digitial Video Recorder (DVR) in this world. All the
shows will be stored online and available to anyone at anytime. Technology changes the way we get our
entertainment. TV shows are migrating to the medium of the internet.
The industry needs to find a way to monetize the shows given the
increasing availability of TV shows online. Inserting advertisements into the show is the traditional way to
support the showing. Broadband and storage are getting cheaper each few months. It is no longer a meaningful cost
to stream a TV show to an individual viewer. In fact, it's getting to be so cheap that it is almost free to host
and deliver. That's the good news. But these shows cost money to produce and need to generate revenue for their
owners. Expect to see a variety of new ways to deliver and make money from shows over the coming months and
years. The trend is inevitable, just
as happened in music years ago.
